We are in the USA on furlough. Not news, I know but what exactly does that mean? For us it means we live primarily out of a suitcase for 7 months and spend hours and hours in the car. There are lots of little hassles, not enough clothes for the season, none of the materials for the projects you were in the middle of back home, tired of the road, and often, just tired.
But. There are even more little joys during this time. Spending time with family and friend who you haven’t seen in years. Having the joy of seeing God use a little word or deed to encourage you at just the right time and remind you that He is there. Seeing God use one of your words or deeds to encourage someone else at just the right time. God is at work in us and through us even when we don’t see it in the moment. We are learning patience and trust. We are learning where real contentment comes from.
This is our last furlough as a complete family unless something unusual happens. Entirely possible because we tend to be an unusual family but I digress. We assume that this is our last family furlough which makes it even more special. Today, Susan and Chloe are away at a Ladies Retreat. Making memories. Growing in their relationship with each other. Making new friends. Growing in their faith. There is a lot of joy in the little things.
