About

The Story Behind The Run With Horses Podcast

Several years ago while our children were still too small to have an adult conversation, we started wondering who would teach them all the things we wanted them to know if something happened to us. After a lot of brainstorming, we came up with a list of topics and began writing essays on each of them. The idea of making it a book was tossed around and then tossed out. Eventually Norman reworked the content into a series of videos on YouTube he called Run With Horses. Somewhere along the way he covered the main topics we wanted to talk about with the kids, and they grew up! With the ability to have those important talks in person, the need for the videos was gone and Run With Horses: the YouTube series came to a close.

Fast forward several years, and time brought changes. Our oldest daughter, Chloe, became a songwriter, and we helped her get a start learning to record, edit, and put out her own music. Then 2020 shut down much of life and ministry in Japan, so Zoom and the internet became a weekly focus. Recording events, sermons. and classes on various topics became a weekly routine for most of 2020 and 2021.

Somewhere along the way we discovered and began listening to podcasts. We have never been a TV family so this fit right in with our lifestyle. A podcast on the way to the store, a little more waiting in the doctor’s office. and before long we were hooked. And we were convinced that this was the best way to share lessons from our life with others.

In February of 2022, the podcast, Run With Horses was born. We are still learning and growing and enjoying every step of the way. Hopefully you are learning and growing as you share in the journey with us!

Meet Your Hosts

Norman grew up in Alabama and over the years worked his way to Iowa as he studied Ornamental Horticulture and Botany. After meeting Susan at church in Ames, IA, his future was forever altered and together they embarked on a journey of faith that eventually led them to their current home in Kumamoto, Japan.

Norman can occasionally be found writing a stupid song, running long miles, riding a motorcycle, or reading a book. He is a proud dad of three awesome kids and is blessed to be married to the best woman in the world.

Susan was raised in Wisconsin and after  graduating from homeschool left for the bright lights of Ankeny, IA, to attend Faith Baptist Bible College. She graduated with a degree in Bible and counseling. She also got her MRS degree shortly afterward.

Susan enjoys playing piano, reading books, writing, and analyzing why her husband is so strange. Somehow they work out together, since they are both slightly off-kilter.
